Click the YouTube Image below to watch the Freddy Deeb interview after he won the $50,000 H.O.R.S.E. event.
The video is less than 2 minutes long. Freddy talks about how hard it was to play 5 straight days 12 hours a day. In fact he says that the 148 player field was real tough but the long days were the real problem trying to win the H.O.R.S.E. tournament. Day 5’s final table was a marathon session of 15 hours before Freddy won the Gold Bracelet. It is very evident in the video how exhausted he was from the effort.
Thor was eliminated on the 1st hand of the final table - 7 Stud 8 or better Round 55.
Eliminated in 7th Place Barry Greenstein $259,256
Barry was eliminated on the 23rd hand of the final table - Omaha 8 or better Round 57.
Eliminated in 6th Place David Singer $337,440
David was eliminated on the 39th hand of the final table - Razz Round 58. David also finished 6th in the 2006 H.O.R.S.E. tournament. Quite an accomplishment 2 years in a row final table in HORSE.
Official Chip Counts at the beginning of Round 61 - Hold’em
Day 4 of the H.O.R.S.E World Championship started with 21 players and will complete when only 8 players remain. Champion will be crowned tomorrow at the completion of Day 5. Play started at 2 pm Vegas time and by 3:45 the bubble burst when Noah Jefferson was eliminated in 17th place. All remaining players will win at least $88,800. The H.O.R.S.E Champion will pocket $2,276.832 and of course the much coveted WSOP bracelet. Earlier on Day 4 Daniel Negreanu, Patrick Pezzin, Max Pescatori and Justin Bonomo were eliminated.
Here is how the final 2 tables and chip counts look: As provided by

Glad to see Mr. Kotter had made it so far in the H.O.R.S.E. tournament. Think Horshack is happy? Your foolish blogger is certainly pulling for him. Too bad that Barbarino and Washington got eliminated so early!
Update at 11pm Vegas time.
Final Table is set with the elimination of Mr. Kotter in 9th place. Gabe Kaplan wins $131,424.

New ‘Poker Peek’ 2007 WSOP Tournament cards All In
It didn’t take long for the highly publicized new Bicycle Poker Peek (poker pro magazine story) WSOP poker tournament cards to be replaced at this year’s WSOP. The Poker Peek feature puts the rank and suit of each card in the corners. The feature was ideal for players to lift only the corners, for a ‘Peek’ at their hole cards, which is just about all WSOP players. The Poker Peek also had a jumbo-like face in the middle of the card providing high visibility when placed on the table.
Numerous issues with the cards were identified including:
Too hard to distinguish between suits of the same color in the corner of the Poker Peek card.
Could not differentiate between Fours and Aces in the corner.
Could not tell a Six from a Nine in the corner.
In a ‘The Poker Edge’ podcast on ESPN radio by Phil Gordon;
he explains that 10 iterations of the cards were tested by a group of professional players and Version 10 was deemed ready for professional play. Version 8 had some serious issues and should not be used for play was the consensus. Unfortunately a printing error during manufacturing caused Version 8 to be manufactured and provided to the Rio for the WSOP.
According to the July issue of
the cards were replaced several hours into event 1.
I was considering ordering many of the WSOP 2007 Poker Peek cards for my Poker League. If I do I only hope my order gets Version 10 printed and sent to me.
Wonder if my Poker League would get the cards replaced as fast as the Rio did for the WSOP.
I know you are a serious player so my question is would you find the Poker Peek feature desirable when playing Poker? Of course this assumes Version 10.
WSOP H.O.R.S.E. tournament started on Sunday June 24th and will crown the true ‘World Champion of Poker’ at the end of the 5 day tournament.
I say the true world champion because of the versatility the players must have to win the tournament. They must be good in 5 different poker games. H=Hold’em O=Omaha eight or better R=Razz S=Stud high E=Stud low Eight or better are all played during the tournament. 148 of the top world class players entered the H.O.R.S.E tournament putting up the $50,000 entry. Last year Chip Reese won the WSOP H.O.R.S.E championship.
Of course ESPN and many others feel very strongly that the WSOP Main Event winner is the World Champion of Poker. Last year when Jamie Gold won the Main Event the $12 million he pocketed took him to right to the top of the all time tournament money winners list.
What did you think of Jamie’s tableside manner? How do you think he will do this year?
Another player with debated tableside manner Phil Helmuth, earlier won his 11th WSOP bracelet. Phil won the $1,500 No-Limit Hold’em event.
Here is a site that has many Poker Tournament videos. Sort of like youtube for Poker. Check it out.
There’s a lot to learn about poker, much more than the game itself. The last few years are a perfect example of poker’s growth into mainstream American culture - books, movies, video games, television, poker players as celebrities, etc. Along with poker strategy and theory, Just Poker Talk plans to chronicle these happenings because it says something about society, about the state of the world, and, more than anything, we want to know what it all means.
