    • Hoa Nguyen moved All-In on the river for just over 1 million after already having over 1 million in the pot. He is called by Lee Childs. Hoa displays 2 pair 5s and ducks. Childs has 2 pair 9s and ducks. Hoa Nguyen is eliminated in 34th place and wins $285,678.
    • Christian Togsverd moves All-In from the Big Blind for 1.75 million. Tuan Lam calls. Christian has ad.gifjs.gif and Tuan has Pocket Ladies qc.gifqs.gif. The board does not improve Christian Togsverd and his Main Event ends in 33rd place and he is awarded $285,678.
    • Kevin Kim is short stacked and moves All-In and is called by Paulo Loureiro. Kevin has Big Slick and Paulo is dominated with A-9o. The flop brings a 9 for Paulo and Kevin doesn’t get any help on the turn or river. Kevin Kim is eliminated in 32nd place and wins $285,678.
    • Peter Darvil made an All-In call after the flop and was ahead with Pocket sevens against Bill Elder with J9s and a 5-3-2 rainbow showing on the flop. The turn didn’t help Elder but the river brought the 9 and Peter Darvil is eliminated in 31st place and takes home $285,678.

    • Ron Kluber moved All-In for 2.8 million after the 3 of hearts fell on the turn. Scott Freeman called and had Ron dominated with top pair to Ron’s 2nd pair. The river didn’t improve Ron. Ron Kluber is eliminated in 29th place and takes home $285,678.

    • Roy Winston called a re-raise from Jerry Yang that put him All-In. Roy displayed Pocket Ladies qc.gifqd.gif and Jerry had Big Slick ac.gifkd.gif. When the flop brought the ah.gif Roy Winston is eliminated in 26th place and is awarded $333,490.
    • Daniel Alaei pushed All-In and was called by Jon Kalmar. Daniel’s A-Qo is dominated by Jon’s A-Ko. Daniel gets no help from the all blanks board. Daniel Alaei is eliminated in 25th place and takes home $333,490.
    • Ryan Ellison re-raised All-In on the river. Jon Kalmar called and showed that he had turned Broadway. Ryan Ellison is eliminated in 24th place and earns $333,490 from the WSOP 2007 Main Event.
    • Bill Elder pushed All-In and was called by Jerry Yang. Bill turned over 9-10o and Jerry had Big Slick. When an Ace hit the turn Bill Elder was eliminated in 23rd place and his prize money is $333,490.

Mikkel received no help from the board and Mikkel Madsen is eliminated in 20th place and receives for consolation $333,490 in Main Event Prize Pool earnings. 
    • Scott Freeman pushed All-In with Pocket Tens and was called by John Armbrust who had Big Slick. The flop brought an Ace and a King and John’s 2 pair eliminated Scott Freeman in 19th place. Scott takes home with him from the Main Event $333,490.
    • John Armbrust moves All-In pre-flop with as.gifks.gif and is called by Lee Childs who turns over ac.gifqs.gif. The board brings a back door club flush for Lee and John Armbrust is eliminated in 18th place. Prize for 18th place is $381,302.

  • Round 28 Eliminations
    • Kenny Tran bet each round after Jon Kalmar had checked. The board was 10 high with 2 clubs. When the 2c.gif hit the river Kalmar pushed All-In and Tran called. When Kalmar showed ac.gif8c.gif and the Nut Flush pushed Kenny Tran out of the Main Event in 16th place and he gets $381,302.
    • Bob Slezak moves All-In for a little over 2 million with Pocket Fours and is called by Raymond Rahme who turns over Pocket Sevens. Bob gets no help from the board. Bob Slezak is eliminated in 15th place and will leave the Main Event with $429,114.
    • David Tran moves All-In with Pocket Sixes and Tuan Lam calls with Big Slick and the race is on. Flop puts David in trouble when a Cowboy lands. The turn and river bring no help and David Tran is eliminated in 14th place and heads to rail the winner of $429,114.
    • William Spadea re-raised All-In and was called by Jon Kalmer who had re-raised Spadea’s middle position bet. Spadea turned over Big Slick AK and Kalmer had Pocket Rockets AA. The flop brought A-8-8 and the full house Kalmer flopped easily held up and William Spadea is eliminated in 13th place and leaves the Main Event to a payday of $429,114.

Moving to Round 29 with only 12 players remaining. Three more eliminations and the Final Table will be set.

  • Round 29 Eliminations
    • Ray Henson gets into a hand with Scottie Nguyen and moves All-In which Scottie calls. Scottie has Ray dominated with Ks and 6s to Ray’s 9s and 6s. No help from the turn or river means that Ray Henson is eliminated in 11th place and the winner of $476,926.
    • Scottie Nguyen WSOP 1998 Main Event Champion went from 3rd in chips with just over 15 million to eliminated in about 35 minutes. Scottie lost a large part of his mass of chips in 2 hands earlier. Scottie moved All-In after the flop with a flush draw. Philip Hilm calls and has top pair Kings. Scottie misses his flush. Scottie Nguyen is eliminated in 11th place. Prize for Scottie is $476,929.

At the end of Round 29 only 10 players remain. One more elimination before Day 6 ends.

    • Steven Garfinkel is eliminated in 10th place, and while being the one that busts the Final Table bubble, does go home with $476,926.

    • Sully Erna lead singer of ‘Godsmack’ moved All-In with K-Qs and was re-raised to 600,000 that caused a previous raiser to Sully’s All-In to fold Pocket Ladies. The re-raiser showed ‘Big Slick’ and the board didn’t help Sully and he was eliminated.
    • Jason Lester moved his short stack All-In with A-5o and was called by an opponent that displayed Pocket Js. Jason didn’t improve and he was eliminated. 
    • Tinten Olivier who was chip leader at the end of Day 1A called an All-In bet by an opponent that had him covered. Tinten showed Pocket 8s and was up against K-Qo. When a Cowboy spiked on the flop Tinten was heading to the rail.

Round 16 ended with approximately 230 players with their eyes on the WSOP 2007 Main Event Bracelet. Five women remain in the field.

  • Round 17 Notable Eliminations
    • Esfandiar Dara moved All-In with A-8o but was dominated by a called that displayed ‘Big Slick’. The board brought no relief for Esfandiar and the Main Event is ended for Esfandiar.
    • Robert Starkey moved All-In with Pocket Rockets and was called by an opponent with Pocket 8s. The board brought a gutshot straight to the caller when a 7 fell on the river and Robert headed to the rail.
    • Carlos Mortensen carlos_mortensen_1.jpg 2001 WSOP Main Event Champion is eliminated.

    • Mike Laing

At the end of Round 17 about 190 players are alive.

  • Round 18 Notable Eliminations
    • Donna Blevins moved All-In with A-10o and was called by Adam White, who is near the overall Chip Lead, who has Pocket 5s. Donna gets no help from the board an is eliminated.
    • Robert Varkonyi robert_varkonyi.jpgWSOP 2002 Main Event Champion moved All-In pre-flop with ac.gif5c.gif and was called by Mickey Seagle with A-Qo. The flop brought J-K-10 with no clubs to make Broadway for Mickey. Robert’s Main Event ended on Broadway.

Round 18 ended with about 140 players still in hopes of being the Main Event Bracelet winner.

  • Round 19 Notable Eliminations
    • Nick Binger re-raised All-In from the Big Blind with 8-9s and was called by Kevin Farry with A-7s. The board didn’t help Nick and the Main Event ends for him.
    • Thor Hansen thorhansen_1_1.jpg re-raised All-In with ad.gifjd.gifNicolas Atlan called with Pocket Rockets and Thor’s Main Event ended.
    • Billy Baxter
    • Neil ‘Bad Beat’ Channing called a All-In re-raise and showed qd.gifqs.gif Jeff Bryan the re-raiser showed ad.gifac.gif and the Pocket Rockets bested the Pocket Ladies.  
    • Patrick Huse is All-In with Pocket Cowboys but is called by Sven Heinecker with Pocket Rockets. Once again the Rockets hold on and Patrick is eliminated.
    • David Levi is All-In with ‘Big Slick’ and is called by Josh Evans with Pocket 9s and doesn’t get an Ace or King on the board and is eliminated.
    • Berry Johnston WSOP 1986 Main Event Champion is All-In with his short stack and displays 6-5s and us up against A-Jo. The board doesn’t help Berry and he finishes WSOP 2007 Main Event.

Play finished on Day 4 with 112 Players still playing. Day 5 will begin at Noon Vegas time on Saturday. Day 5 will play until 27 players remain alive for the WSOP 2007 Main Event Champion.

At the end of Round 12 hand for hand play has begun as the money bubble is about to burst with around 650 players remaining alive on Day 3. 621 Players will end up ‘Cashing’ at the WSOP 2007 Main Event.

    • Ted Forrest ted_forrest.jpg when a flop showed 9h.gif5s.gif4s.gifTed moves All-In. Stephen Lynch calls with kc.gifkh.gif. Ted’s flush draw doesn’t come in and his Main Event is over.
    • Scott Grey was eliminated in 627 place when his J-10o was beaten by A-Js.
    • John Lawrence was All-In with Pocket Rockets and was called by K-Q of hearts. Runner runner hearts sent John to the rail just short of cashing.
    • Rob Thompson is the bubble buster. Rob moved All-In with J-9o and was dominated by Jon Moonves QJs. After the flop Rob had an open ender but it didn’t fill and Rob is the WSOP 2007 Bubble burster. All remaining players will receive at least $20,621.
    • Gavin Smith gavin_smith_1.jpg moved his short stack All-In and was called by Christian Togsverd. Gavin table 7s.gif7h.gif and Christian showed js.gifjd.gif. The board brought no help to Gavin and his Main Event ended with a in the Money finish.

At the end of Round 13 the bubble has burst and all remaining player have ‘Cashed’ in the WSOP 2007 Main Event.

    • Brent Sheirbon was All-In with A-Qo and when WSOP 2002 Main Event Champion Robert Varkonyi called with A-Ko, Brent was dominated. The board didn’t improve Brent and he headed to the rail.
    • Michael Cooper had ‘Big Slick’ and was All-In and was called by an opponent that turned over Pocket Ladies. Michael’s Main Event ended here.

At the end of Round 15 337 players are still alive to continue on to Day 4. WSOP 2007 Main Event Day 4 will begin at Noon Vegas time Saturday.

Play will continue until late in Round 11 to match the stopping time of Day 2A when they hit 350 remaining players. This is because when the field is combined for Day 3, all remaining players will have played the same amount of time to that point of the Main Event.

So for Day 2B just a little less than 5 two hours rounds with survivors advancing to Day 3 on Thursday July 11th at Noon Vegas time.

    • Steve Danneman steve_danneman.jpg 2005 WSOP Main Event Runner, up to Joe Hachem, moved All-In with Pocket Cowboys and was called by an opponent that tabled A10. When a 10 hit on the flop and again on the river Steve’s Main Event ended.
    • Russell Rosenblum, 2002 Main Event Final Table participant, moves All-In and both Blinds call. Flop is 3 Hearts to make a flush for the Big Blind and Russell has to move to the rail.
    • Susie Isaacs re-raises All-In after the flop of 2s.gif5h.gifad.gif with ac.gifjs.gif and the raiser moves All-In to force Daniel Negreanu All-In to call. Daniel calls and shows a pair of ducks for his set and the raiser has ah.gifkh.gif the turn and river are no help and Susie is eliminated. Daniel’s stack grows to 150,000. 
    • Allen Cunningham allan_cunningham.jpg is in a big pot and ends up All-In after raises and re-raises on the Flop of K-6-3 rainbow. Allen show 6-3 for 2 pair and his opponent has K-J. When a J hits the river, Allen the WSOP 2006 Main Event 4th place finisher and the WSOP 2005 Player of the Year is eliminated from this year’s Main Event. 
    • Bill Gazes gets in a 3-way All-In pot and has Pocket Cowboys but is up against Pocket Rockets and the 3rd player has AJo. Bill doesn’t get the needed Cowboy and leaves the Main Event.

At the end of Round 7 about 981 players remain on Day 2B.

  • Round 8 Notable Eliminations
    • Brad Daugherty, WSOP 1991 Main Event Bracelet Winner.
    • Anahit Galajian moved All-In with 10d.gif10h.gif and was called byac.gifkc.gif and a Ace came on the turn and Ahahit headed to the rail.
    • Eric Hershler moves All-In with K-Jo and is called by the Big Blind who flashes Pocket Rockets. Eric doesn’t outdraw the Rockets and is eliminated.

    • Aram Zerounian was All-In with Pocket 10s and was called by an opponent with ‘Big Slick’. The flop came Q-8-7 and the turn brought Aram a 10 for his set he only had to avoid a J on the river. A Broadway straight showed up on the river J and Aram was eliminated with a brutal beat.
    • Yarom Limor called a raise after a  flop of K-Q-6 that put him All-In. He showed a Q but the raiser had a K and the turn and river were blanks for Yarom and his Main Event ended.

    • Chris Moneymaker, chris_moneymaker.jpg WSOP 2003 Main Event Champion and often cited as one of the primary reasons for the extraordinary growth of the WSOP with that Bracelet Championship as an unknown, was eliminated.
    • Prahlad Friedman re-raised All-In pre-flop with Pocket 8s and was called. Prahlad was behind when his opponent showed Pocket 10s. When the flop spiked a 10 Prahlad was all but out of the Main Event. The turn and river were blanks and Prahlad was eliminated.

    • Jeff King moved All-In on a flop of qd.gif 9d.gif9d.gif with ad.gifas.gifand was called by a player that showed qs.gifqc.gif and Jeff missed the back door Nut flush and headed to the rail.

    • Jon ‘Pearljammer’ Turner was All-In with his short stack and showed K-9o and was called by Carl Olson who had A-4o. The board was all blanks and ‘Pearljammer’ was railed late in Day 2B.

At the end of Day 2B somewhere close to 459 players survived to play Day 3 starting Thursday July 12 at Noon Vegas time. They will be combined with the 350 players from Day 2A for a total of just over 800 survivors competing for the Bracelet and $8.2 million prize. The bubble will burst sometime during Day 3 when 621 players remain. 

At the end of both Day 2’s the un-official chip leader has amassed 580,000 chips.

    • Alan Smurfit who won the 2007 WSOP $1,500 Pot Limit Omaha was eliminated after re-raising All-In with 7d.gif7s.gif he was called by the raiser who had ac.gifas.gif. Both Alan and the raiser ended up with a full house which left Alan heading to the rail.
    • Pete “The Beat” Giordano moved All-In with ‘Blick Slick’ and was called by the Big Blind who turned over KQ. The Big Blind ended up with Broadway to eliminate Pete and his pair of Aces.
    • Joe Hachem joe_hachem_1.jpg WSOP 2005 Main Event Champion re-raises All-In when the flop comes up as.gif10c.gif10d.gif. Joe is called by the Big Blind who shows ad.gifqh.gifand Joe is behind with ah.gif8c.gif. The river and turn are blanks and the Q Kicker sends Joe out of the Main Event.
    • Capt. Tom Franklin pushed a short stack All-In with Pocket Qs and was called by an opponent that had ‘Big Slick’. The flop hit the ‘Big Slick’ and the Capt. was ousted from the Main Event.

At the end of Round 7 around 820 players remained in play on Day 2A.

  • Round 8 Notable Bust Outs
    • Rhett Butler rhett_butler.jpg who finished 5th in the WSOP 2006 Main Event and took home $3.2 million was eliminated early in Round 8.
    • Patrik Antonius is out kicked with his top pair by Danny Felix and his Main Event has ended.
    • Doug Kim is All-In with his short stack with Q3 and when his opponent calls with A2 and the flop brings an Ace Doug heads to the rail.
    • Mark Seif mark_seif.jpg moved all in and showed ks.gifkd.gif and was called by Richard Marshall who turned over 10c.gif10d.gif and when the 10h.gif landed on the river Mark was out of the Main Event.
    • Dan Harrington WSOP 1995 Main Event Champion and author of the Harrington on Hold ‘em trilogy, was All-In from the button with AQ but was dominated by the caller who tabled AK. Dan didn’t improve and he was eliminated.
    • Tony G re-raised All-In and 2 players called. When the cards were shown Pocket Rockets, Pocket Cowboys and Tony G’s Pocket 10s. Tony didn’t improve and now he is probably headed to Australia.
    • Paul Wasicka paul_wasicka_1.jpgWSOP 2006 Main Event Runner Up is out early this year when his Pocket 8s were called by an opponent who showed AJs and when 2 Aces hit the flop Paul’s Main Event was ended.
    • Farzad Bonyadi pushed All-In with jd.gifjs.gif and was called by a player who turned over ah.gifac.gifFarzad didn’t improve and headed out of the Main Event.
    • Barry Greenstein was All-In with Pocket Ladies but was called by Andrew Drokos with Pocket Rockets and Barry’s Main Event ended.

At the end of Round 8 around 650 players remained in play on Day 2A.

  • Round 9 Notable Bust Outs
    • Ross Boatman eliminated when Daniel Snowden ended up with a full house and Ross missed his Nut Flush draw.
    • Evelyn Ng evelyn_ng_1.jpg re-raises All-In from the cut-off and is called by Matt Sterling. Evelyn has 9s.gif9h.gif but is well behind to Matt’s ac.gifah.gif the board offers no relief for Evelyn and she is eliminated from the Main Event.

    • ‘Miami’ John Cernuto pushed his short stack All-In with Pocket 10s and was called by Dave Smart who showed qs.gif9s.gif the flop and turn were blanks but the river brought qc.gif and ‘Miami’ John was eliminated.
    • Jeff Madsen jeff_madsen_1.jpg pushed pre-flop with A9s and was called by an opponent with Pocket 5s. An Ace spiked on the flop and Jeff got no help on the turn or river and his Main Event is over.
    • Tom McEvoy WSOP 1983 Main Event champion was All-In pre-flop with KQo against Todd Phillip’s AKo and when the flop brought AK7 Tom was busted.
    • Joe Sebok got his money in with 10h.gif10c.gif and was called by Will Wilkinson who was hit with qd.gifqc.gif. Joe didn’t get any help from the board and joined many others on the rail.

At the end of Round 10 384 players remained alive. Play will continue until 350 remain, which won’t take long in Round 11.

The Numbers You’ve All Been Waiting For

After four days of Main Event play, the official numbers are in!

Here’s the break down of the 2007 WSOP main event:

Day 1a: 1,287
Day 1b: 1,545
Day 1c: 1,743
Day 1d: 1,783

6,358 players entered the 2007 WSOP Main Event, creating a prizepool of $59,784,954. 621 places will be paid, and each player who cashes will be guaranteed at least $20,320. First place will win $8,250,000.

  • Round 3 Notable Eliminations
    • Fred Goldberg fred_goldberg.jpgwas short stacked and went All-In with as.gif9d.gifGavin Smith called with ac.gif10h.gif and the board did not help Fred and he is out much earlier than in 2006 when he finished 10th in the Main Event.
    • Phil Hellmuth helmuth.jpg ended up playing about a Round and a half after showing up late he was eliminated with about 30 minutes to go in Round 3. He was All-In with a 400 big blind and lost when his opponent hit runner runner flush. I imagine he had some nice things to say for the ESPN camera crew following him.
    • Robert Williamson III got his money All-In when he flopped 2 pair and was called by an opponent with an open ended straight draw. The straight filled on the turn and the river did not get Robert his full house and he headed to the rail.

  • 4th Round Notable Eliminations
    • Clonie Gowen pushed All-In gowen.jpg with ac.gifqh.gif but her opponent had her dominated showing ad.gifkc.gif and Clonie didn’t improve and was sent to the rail.
    • Brian Nadell with Pocket Kings was eliminated by an opponent that showed pocket 9s and the flop provided a 9.
    • Rafe Furst short stacked pushed All-In from the small blind for 9,000 and was called by the big blind. Rafe flopped 2 pair but the big blind hit a set to eliminated Rafe.
    • Scott Pendergrast
    • Amir Vahedi short stacked pushed All-In with pocket 6s and was called by an opponent with JQo and when a J came on the flop Amir was sent to the rail.
  • 5th Round Notable Eliminations
    • Al Krux from late position was All-In with ad.gifks.gif and was called from early position by Darrell ‘Gigabet’ Dicken’s kh.gifkc.gif, Al didn’t improve and was eliminated.
    • Chau Giang
    • Kristy Gazes with ‘Big Slick’ was eliminated by an opponent that turned over Pocket 9s that ended up as a set of 9s.

    • Ted Lawson had his pair of Ks bested when an opponent had a 9 high flush.
    • Joe Cassidy with ‘Big Slick’ ran up against Pocket Ladies and the board did not provide Joe any help.
  • 6th Round Notable Eliminations
    • T.J. Cloutier cloutier.jpg was All-In after the flop with his as.gif6s.gif and a 6c.gifspiked, but his opponent called with js.gifjh.gif and T.J.’s Main Event was ended.
    • Kenna James when his All-In with an A10 was dominated by an opponent’s ‘Big Slick’.
    • Steve Brecher ran his ad.gifkh.gif ran into an opponent who turned over ks.gifkc.gif.
    • Vanessa Rousso when her set of 5s ran into a caller’s set of Qs.
    • Gavin Griffin went All-In with a King high flush draw but an opponent had Pocket Rockets and eliminated Gavin.

Play has ended for Day 1C 15 and 1/2 hours after beginning. Six 2 hour rounds eliminated 1,063 of the 1743 that started. 680 players move to Day 2B on Wednesday July 11th. Average chip stack is right around $51,500.

For the 1st time this year all 160 tables have 10 players each and in fact the ‘Poker Pavillion’ has 8 tables set up. So the Rio will end up with over 1650 for Day 1C.

There are currently 4,575 entrants who have played at this point. They are expecting another 1,600+ players on the final flight scheduled on Monday. That would bring the totals past 6,000 for this year’s WSOP. It’s not as many as the record setting main event from 2006, but it’s more than 2005 when Joe Hachem won.
