Your ‘Dead Money’ blogger Michael DSC00004_1.JPGand how he looked when he hit that Straight Flush earlier this year. It was unbelievable and I kept my Poker Face throughout. Of course I was playing online so it wasn’t too difficult to maintain. Too bad I wasn’t at a WPT event TV Final Table.

Payouts at WPT Turks & Caicos Poker Classic Downgraded

Thursday, September 27th, 2007
  • Payouts at WPT Turks & Caicos Poker Classic Lowered

Only 137 players entered the WPT Turks and & Caicos Poker Classic. The Champion was to be Guaranteed $1,000,000 and $25,000 entry into the 2008 WPT Championship in April. With the 137 players paying the $7,500 buy-in the WPT reported that the prize pool was only $996,675 well short of what would be needed to pay all the players that would usually cash in a Tournament this size and the winner $1,000,000. To solve the issue the WPT gave the final 100 players 4 options to select from for the payouts.

Here are the options the players had to decide on:

  • Option 1:

Winner take all $996,675.

Your ‘Dead Money’ blogger assumes that this Option did not get much support.

  • Option 2:

Final 10 players get paid with the payouts being:

  1. $426,675
  2. $225,000
  3. $125,000
  4. $70,000
  5. $50,000
  6. $30,000
  7. $25,000
  8. $20,000
  9. $15,000
  10. $10,000
  • Option 3

Payouts would only be for the WPT 6 Player Final Table with the payouts being:

  1.  $436,675
  2. $225,000
  3. $125,000
  4. $90,000
  5. $70,000
  6. $50,000
  • Option 4

The last Option was to have the last 9 players cash with the payouts being:

  1. $436,675
  2. $225,000
  3. $125,000
  4. $70,000
  5. $50,000
  6. $30,000
  7. $25,000
  8. $20,000
  9. $15,000

Not sure how the vote totals turned out but the Final 100 players ended up selecting Option 4 and 9 players will cash. The Tournament end on Sunday September 30th, 2007.

As of this post 43 players remain. You can see the current chip counts here.

Watch Alan Keating on ESPN WSOP Main Event

Sunday, September 23rd, 2007
  • ESPN WSOP Main Event Tuesday Broadcast

Alan KeatingJust a notice to let you know that rumours have it that ESPN Main Event coverage on Tuesday 09/25/2007 will include coverage of MSU student, and no relation to your ‘Dead Money’ blogger, Alan Keating during his deep Main Event run in July. I am sure Alan is also pleased at the Spartan’s beat down of Notre Dame on the grid iron yesterday. Just wanted to let my Just Poker Talk readers know so they can arrange their schedules to see Alan on ESPN.
Alan did very well in the Main Event. Near the end of Day 4 he was near the top of the Chip Leader board.  Day 4 did not end well for him and he was knocked out on Day 5. Alan finished 102nd and took home $58,570 in prize money which I am sure is probably helping with his Student Loans at Michigan State.

Women did Very Well at WSOP Europe Events

Friday, September 21st, 2007
  • Women make their Presence Felt at WSOPE

Your ‘Dead Money’ blogger is impressed with how well the Women contingent did at the recently completed World Series of Poker Europe. Of course you know by now that Annette ObrestadAnnette Obrestad (Photo Source: PokerNews) won the Main Event and the
£ 1,000,000 - $2,000,000 US and the WSOPE bracelet. Annie Duke from the US alsoAnnie Duke cashed finishing 21st and taking home £ 30,770 - $61,500 US. Jennifer Harman, also from the US, while she didn’t cash finished 42nd in the Main Event. Annie Duke (Photo Source: Imaconlinepoker)
In the 1st Event at the WSOPE the £ 2,500 - $5,000 US H.O.R.S.E. Tournament Jennifer was chip leader for large Jennifer Harmanportions of the 3 day tournament and ended up heads up with eventual champion Thomas Bihl with Jennifer finishing 2nd and winning £ 40,688 - $81,200 US. Annie also made it to Day 2 during the H.O.R.S.E. tournament.
Jennifer Harman (Photo Source: PokerNews)
Congratulations to all the Women that did so well at the WSOP Europe. I am still having trouble grasping the concept of an 18 year old WSOP Main Event Champion. Youngest bracelet winner by over 2 years and will always be the 1st woman WSOP Main Event Champion. Congratulations to Annette. I can’t wait until she can play legally in the US, because the publicity that will be around her when she comes to the WSOP in Las Vegas in 2010 will be nice to watch.

Shawn Sheikhan faces Deportation

Thursday, September 20th, 2007
  • Shawn Sheikhan faces Deportation

Shawn SheikhanImmigration Officials arrested Shawn Sheikhan on August 30, 2007 at his Las Vegas home according to a story by Lynnette Curtis in the Las Vegas Review Journal. He was held for more than a week before he posted $10,000 bond. Possible deportation is on the horizon for Sheikhan over his 1995 conviction on charges of sexual battery and annoyance or molestation of a child.

Federal authorities are looking to deport Sheikhan because of the misdemeanor conviction in California.

“This individual was targeted for ICE arrest because of his criminal history,” Virginia Kice, a spokeswoman for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, said in an e-mail message Wednesday. “ICE has an ongoing initiative called Operation Predator targeting individuals, including foreign nationals, who prey upon and sexually exploit children.”

“We want to see him removed from the United States,”

Sheikhan served 9 months in jail and 5 years probation following the conviction.

WSOP Europe Video Interview with Main Event Bracelet Winner Annette Obrestad

Wednesday, September 19th, 2007
  • WSOP Europe Video Interview with Main Event Champion Annette Obrestad

PokerTube has this short video, of an interview by PokerNews of WSOPE Main Event Champion Annette Obrestad, available. Annette talks about how for a while she was card dead and the time she got either Aces or Kings she only won the blinds. She went on to say that she won when she would hit the flop with her mediocre hands. She indicated that she likes playing in Live tournaments now and will be playing a lot more Live tournaments. Annette was a little disappointed that she won’t be able to play in the United States for a little more than 2 years. Annette has no plans yet for what to do with the over $2,000,000 US dollars she won. Finally she said the best thing was winning the WSOPE Main Event Bracelet.
